One Year From Today, I’m Going To Have The Best Day Off Ever!
Today is December 21st, 2011. Exactly one year from this day, the world is supposed to end. In true madman fashion, I will spit in the face of apocalypse and take the greatest day off ever. But why, you say? The world will be torn apart but angry shit demons and flesh eating sunflower zombies. Everyone will be in complete panic, sitting in their bomb shelters snacking away their worries with their lifetime supply of spam. I’m going to explain this once and once only: nothing is going to happen on 12/21/12.
Here’s my theory in a nutshell. How many movies, books, documentaries, and TV series have you seen about 2012? There are more outrageous theories postulating a world catastrophe in 2012, than there are people working on cures for cancer or aids. Everything from killer super-flues to rogue asteroids are said to be ready to strike on that fateful day. But what will really happen? That depends on who you talk to.
According to NASA, absolutely nothing of interest will occur on 12/21/12. They want cold, hard evidence for even the slightest possibility of apocalypse. Check this article out for more information on NASA’s views. On the other hand, according to one popular 2012 website, not only is it essential to begin preparing for the end of the world in 2012, but it is near impossible for anyone of low-income to survive (at least $6000 is required to have a fighting chance.)
As for me? I plan on taking 12/21/12 off of all work. I’ll buy a nice case of Mike’s Hard, sit back, and relax to my favorite music. If anything happens on 12/21/12, it will be caused by mass panic and paranoia caused by all the 2012 madness plaguing the internet today.
Of course, there is one very dark, disastrous event that could drastically alter my view of 2012. The SOPA Act will cause the end of the Internet as we know it today. Imagine what it would be like to have to explain to your grand-kids about what the Internet was and how great it was.
There’s too much stress in worrying about a so-called apocalypse, especially with WWIII right around the corner and the end of the Internet. So hold on tight, 2012 looks to be a bumpy year, but apocalypse is the last thing we should worry about.
Kim Jong Il Dies. The World Reacts, But Something’s Not Right.
Kim Jong Il finally died of a heart attack while on a train at the age of 69. This should be excellent news, and a chance for freedom for the starving people of North Korea. Instead, world leaders are speaking of what a somber day this is, and how unfortunate of an event has taken place. These are the same world leaders who only months before were chastising North Korea for its nuclear program. Talk about fronting…
The only country, in my opinion, to get it right was the US. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a staunch believer that the US is in a downward spiral toward a dictatorship, but our reaction to Kim Jong Il’s death was classic. According to CNN:
The Obama administration had little to say about Kim’s death, noting it was “closely monitoring reports.” The White House said President Barack Obama spoke with his South Korean counterpart and had reconfirmed the U.S. commitment to the “stability on the Korean peninsula, and to the freedom and security of our allies.”
I understand that it is only decent and human to pay your respects to a dying or dead human being, but that man was a few screws short of human. Allowing your people to starve while you indulge in the most disgusting riches one could imagine is why you would not deserve a comment. I’m surprised the US didn’t just say “Boy howdy, it’s time to invade.” Of course, if played right, the successor of Mr. Il could possibly be swayed to participate in US discussions regarding their nuclear policies and the treatment of their people.
To me, it seemed like China gave the most cryptic and disturbing comment of all the world powers. Read for yourself, as told by CNN:
“We were distressed to learn of the unfortunate passing of the senior-most North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, and we express our deep grief about this and extend our condolences to the people of North Korea. Kim Jong Il is a great leader of North Korean people, and is a close friend of Chinese people. … China and North Korea will make joint effort … to consolidate and develop the … friendship between the two countries … and to maintain the peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and the region.”
It just seems like China is trying to say that they are more than willing to ally with North Korea and assist with its interests, possibly even its nuclear program. It’s like I said a while back: WWIII will involve China, Iran and North Korea as the three main axis powers. Of course, I also said that Canada would surprise us in the ultimate reversal and invade the northern states. You never know…
The Founding Fathers Are Weeping
Today, the world has witnessed the climax in the story of the downfall of America. The founding fathers are weeping. 220 Years ago, our founding fathers added the Bill of Rights to the Constitution of the United States, limited federal power and securing individual rights. Now, on the anniversary of that momentous occasion, that historic document has ceased to hold any meaning. We, as American citizens, have done nothing for too long. We have allowed our government to gather untold powers, wage outrageous wars, and favor corporate interests while we allow ourselves to be brainwashed by the media.
Today, December 15, 2001, the Senate has passed the controversial update of the NDAA. Previously passed by the House and soon to be signed by the President, the updated NDAA calls for the detention of American Citizens without due process for an indefinite amount of time and without access to a lawyer. It allows funding for the construction of US-soil based military detention camps, long predicted by conspiracy theorist such as Alex Jones and Jesse Ventura.
So what’s so bad about the NDAA? How does it affect you? The NDAA describes persons eligible for detention as anyone involved in the terrorist attacks of 9/11, or anyone suspected of aiding and abetting a terrorist or terrorist cell. However, it is the strange rhetoric used in the legal wording that worries me. Here is a quote from Occupy LA that explains it much better than I can:
Both H.R. 1045 and S. 1867 contain counter-terrorism provisions, which are set within the same section: 1031. Just as in S. 1867, you’ll notice, however, they are entirely different (I have only pertain herein to items from each bill that pertain to controversial provisions). In H.R. 1045, only current detainees held under counter-terrorism mandates are addressed. Note that it is made clear these detainees are not, in fact, U.S. citizens. In S. 1867, (Sec. 1031), under what authority detainees (covered persons) will be detained is addressed, but it is vague (outside of being a part of or supporting a known “terrorist” group) on what else may qualify a detainee for being detained.
Now Section 1032 comes into play, as it states that a “covered person” is NOT a U.S. citizen or legal alien. Section 1032′s title is “Requirement for Military Custody,” so one may assume this is in regards to Section 1031′s title of the “Affirmation of Authority to Detain Covered Persons Pursuant to the Authorization for Use of Military Force.” However, this is a legal document; nothing is implicit. Also, Section 1032 only references Section 1031 in how and why it is possible to detain covered persons. If you specifically read Section 1031 (a, b and 2) and Section 1032 (1, 2, 2a, 2b and 4(b) 1 and 2) you will see they both contradict each other. So, it seems, if you find truth to that statement, and since no differentiation is made of either a “covered person” in Section 1031 is or is not a U.S. citizen, by way of semantics, the Armed Forces of the United States can legally detain a U.S. citizen under suspicion only, and “without trial until the end of hostilities.”
The NDAA broadly describes who is covered by the provisions. In fact, one could easily label any close family member, priest, or even the president a terrorist. Any person prepared for natural disaster is a clear target, after all, keeping lots of food instantly makes you a terrorist.
For some visual stimulation, I have included two videos below that are required viewing. They are very short, and very stirring. Peace!
I Have Hope…
Every day I wake up in the morning at 7:30, brush my teeth, take a poo, and start up my computer. The first page I navigate to is CNN; then it’s Unexplained-Mysteries; then Above Top Secret and finally Facebook. Every day I am greeted by the constant negativity in the media; the sheer hopelessness of the situation the world is in today. Murder, rape, theft, Justin Beiber — It’s too much to take sometimes.
I went to work the other day after my morning ritual, hoping to have at least a decent day. Unfortunately, it was not to be. Not only was I yelled at by multiple ruthless customers who seem to think that the world revolves around their order, I was subjected to a day of dropping product after product on the ground. Enough about my problems, though. That’s not what this article is about.
That same day, I didn’t feel like cooking anything. It was a hard day and I was in the mood for the fattiest substance I could think of. Julie and I walked to Wendy’s and order dinner. There was a child behind us; maybe between 9 and 12 years old. We finished ordering, he finished ordering, and we both waited for our food.
On the way out, this boy did a series of things that not only voided the entire day’s worth of disappointment, but gave me hope in the human race. First he held the door open for both of us (Gasp!), second when I said thank you, he said “Your’re welcome, sir.” Holy Crap! Finally, he wished us Merry Christmas and went about his way.
I was stunned. I had observed for so long the decline of the human race through the next generation of kids. This single child gave me hope. If every child has his manners and respect, the world would be in a truly better place.
Finally, I just wanted to say sorry for the lapse in posts. Things have been kind of hectic around here lately, but hopefully I’ll be able to post more often for the time being.
How the Media Distorts and Discredits the Occupy Movement
The Occupy Movement has taken over the media over the last 2 months. Movements all over the world are gaining steam, and news crews aren’t far behind to document them. These Occupy Movements have been known since the beginning for it’s serious, and sometimes witty signage. However, there are those signs that push the boundaries of the movement’s message and intentions.
It has been stated by the media that the Occupy Movement is really a controlled demonstration organized by the communist party. The so called “evidence” for this are signs showing pictures of Che Guevara in his iconic pose. Other “evidence” includes soviet flags, upturned american flags, and talk such as “down with capitalism” and “Capitalism is Dead.” The simple truth is that the Occupy Movement cannot and will not control what signage it’s participants bring. There are very popular T-shirts featuring Che Guevara’s face, handbag’s featuring the familiar soviet symbols, and popular TV shows that use an upturned flag to symbolize America “turned upside down.”
Most people who wear “Che” shirts, as they will henceforth be called, have no idea whatsoever what a terrible man he really was. They also have no idea of the atrocities committed by Stalin for the supposed sake of the Soviet Union. It’s a terrible fact, but ignorance runs rampant among many young people today. And since young people make up the majority of Occupiers, its simple logic to assume that at least a few will bring signage that to them seems cool and witty.
Now, for the important stuff. The Occupy Movement is not about bringing down capitalism. It is not about revolution in the violent sense of the word. It’s not about anarchy or desecrating the flag, or pooping on police cars. It is about holding greedy corporations and their CEOs accountable for the financial collapse of the US economy. It is about holding the Federal Reserve, itself a private corporation, accountable for it’s part in the collapse. It is about retaining basic rights that have been stripped away by religious movements and the patriot act. It’s about giving students the RIGHT, not the privileged, to go to a good university. It’s about stopping the foreclosure terrorism that the banks are committing on a regular basis. On a side note, you know it’s bad when a bank would rather bulldoze a good home that was foreclosed, rather than have to maintain and sell the property.
I say it’s time YOU stop believing what the media tells you (myself included) and go down to an Occupy Movement yourself. You don’t have to agree with it or support it. Just go and get a feel for what is actually going on. Stop living like sheep, waiting for their herder to lead them in the right direction and start making decisions for yourself.
Finally, it is very important to note that the Occupy Movements do not support any political candidates or organizations. Any politicians or organizations that claim to have sponsored or funded the movement are plain liars. Oh, and FYI, the reason the crowd repeats everything the speaker says is not because they have brainwashed us into mindless zombies. It’s a technique that uses the crowd as a sort of organic microphone so that the people far back can hear what is being said. Get your facts straight before leaving ignorant comments on videos.
Occupy Detroit Day 1
My friend and I arrived downtown a bit later than expected. We found a parking lot next to Greektown casino that was offering $5.00 parking all day. We took the opportunity and pulled inside. I had bought several posterboards earlier in the day to make signs with. We pulled those out and wrote in the boldest type we could come up with. Mine said:
Detroit Police Department Response Time to Rape and Murder: 30 Minutes to 5 Hours.
Detroit Police Department Response Time to Occupy Detroit Peaceful Protest: 30 Seconds.
Is Something Wrong Here?
My friend’s sign said:
Those who would trade freedom for security shall loose both and deserve neither.
– Benjamin Franklin
What’s That TSA? I didn’t Think So!
We packed up our signs and began walking toward the Spirit of Detroit statue. Unfortunately, the protesters had already begun marching toward Grand Circus Park. A big thank you goes out to the lady who directed us in the correct direction at the time.
Walking to Grand Circus Park was like walking in the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Everyone was holding signs while honks of support erupted all over Woodward. The police were “escorting” the protesters to the park; probably 10 cars at that time. We arrived at the park and were immediately stunned at the number of people there. Grand Circus Park is split into two halves. One half contained the tents and supplies of the group; the other half was filled with well over 1000 people holding signs, cameras, and audio equipment. People were singing, playing instruments, giving small lectures, and generally discussing the situation at hand. All the while, twenty or so police vehicles surrounded the park at the curbs. Police barricades were set up, but not close to the crowd.
The scene can only be described as organized chaos. There was barely room to walk, but people were very polite and kindly moved for us. Everyone had their own signs stating their own issues with our society, and yet they all shared in the same general feelings of anger and disdain for our system as it is. There was no leader. This cannot be emphasized enough. There were speakers; there were people distributing literature, but not one person could honestly say they were in charge.
Later, during the general assembly, a speaker began explaining the democratic process of voting on an agenda. She joyfully explained how to vote so that everyone’s vote could be counted. As she spoke, the entire crowd acted as an organic microphone, repeating every three or four words at a time so that the entire park could hear it. An agenda for the next couple of days was decided on, everyone’s concerns were addressed, and the democratic process had succeeded.
After the agenda had been decided on, the group broke up into small groups to talk amongst each other and get to know one another; after all, we were all a big family.
We didn’t have much time left, so we headed to the “tent city” on the other side of the park. It was everything a revolutionary could dream of. Present was a medical tent, supply tent, food tent, even a comfort tent. Regardless of what the news would have you believe, bathrooms were available thanks to several businesses and a local church that opened their doors for the occupiers to ‘occupy.’ There was a lady giving out hand warmers, people offering to help set up tents. It was truly a beautiful sight.
I will be returning to Occupy Detroit on Monday and Tuesday of next week. They are really hurting for supplies, tarps, clothing, gloves, coats, and expertise in medical and legal fields. If you are interested in helping out, please don;t hesitate to drive down to Grand Circus Park and join in.
In addition to the above items, they are also looking for books for a small library they plan to set up in the camp. Again, don’t be shy to donate.
In conclusion, I leave you with 5 videos of the protest. Please excuse me for the poor videography. They may be a bit dizzying, but they are watchable. Over 80 photos of the protest and tent city can be found on our Facebook page and gallery. Click Here to be taken to the page!
Thanks to all!
Occupy Detroit — What Is It? What Do We Want? Why Now? Where’s Hamtramck?
It’s been 23 days since Occupy Wall Street first began. Despite what the mainstream media has been saying, it is still going very strong. In fact, the protests against the ’1%’ have been spreading all over the country and all over the world. But what is it? In there own words:
Occupy Wall Street is leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants.]
The 99%? What is that, you might ask? This is the 99%: http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/
Okay, but what do we want? What do we hope to have accomplished? Of course, Detroit’s demands may differ a bit from New York’s, but the jist is quite the same. Here is what we want: (The Declaration of the Occupation of New York City.)
As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.
As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.
They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.
They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.
They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one’s skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.
They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.
They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless animals, and actively hide these practices.
They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.
They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.
They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.
They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.
They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.
They have sold our privacy as a commodity.
They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press. They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.
They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them.
They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives or provide relief in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantial profit.
They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.
They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.
They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.
They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad. They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.
They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. *To the people of the world,
We, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.
Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.
To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.
Join us and make your voices heard!
*These grievances are not all-inclusive.
Wow. That was pretty intense, right? Before you go and scream political nonsense at this, please remember: This is NOT a political movement. Despite what “they” say. We do not support a particular politician, nor any particular ideology. What we do support, is the accountability of big corporate businesses, banks, and corrupt institutions in the United States and abroad.
But why now? Why choose now to get angry? Well, remember, to start change first, you need to get angry. Watch this famous scene from “Network.”
But what does this have to do with Hamtramck? Hamtramck nearly was dealt an EFM. That is a very harsh reality. We are very close to loosing our police and fire fighters. There is talk of combining city services to cut costs. Isn’t it time that the cities and peoples are bailed out instead of big banks? Isn’t it a basic right to feel safe walking out of your house without fearing for your life because of asinine 911 response times (which we are close to having.) It’s high time to occupy Hamtramck. Perhaps its time to fight for our police and fire. Fight for our cities and our neighbors. Fight for Hamtramck, Detroit, and America.

Thoughts, And A Very Nice Walk
My fiance, my sister, and I were out walking around yesterday just to enjoy the city and breathe some much needed fresh air. We took some pictures of random stuff, and I just thought I’d say a few things about each one. Why not, right?
“Ooties” is a small sandwich shop that is about to open in the building that once housed the Thai Bangkok restaurant. This sandwich shop looks very promising. From the giant Juicy Fruit painting on the north wall, to the strange upside down monkey logo. I can’t wait to try this place out. Anyone remember Salvador Deli that used to be where Mars Bar is now, on Yemans and Campau? That place had some great ideas and was very creative. Hopefully Ooties tries something similar. Just try not to burn yourself down.
Yummm……=)
Just a lonely bit of graffiti on the wall behind The Clock Restaurant.
The Hamtramck Peace Garden, setup by the Zen Center, is one of the most peaceful areas I have ever visited. This was my first time, and I enjoyed it very much. Julie practiced what she preaches and cleaned the garden up a bit. Sarah was meditating quietly on the bench. We need more places like this in Hamtramck. People are too high strung. Places like this give people a chance to cool off and collect themselves. If only we could keep the hoodlums from spraying the places with piss and paint. I’m just so glad that people care enough about the garden to keep it clean and tidy. Anyone is welcome and remember:
“Take Only Memories, Leave Only Footprints.”
